Here’s the truth – I have been trying to write this blog for the last month. I have started over at least 50 times. I keep asking myself “why am I struggling to write about something that as the old saying goes “I eat, sleep and dream about 24/7”? This does seem a bit crazy but it is the best way I can find to start my blog.

Please do not let this stop you from reading on. I do have a message for you. Let me begin...

You are having a baby – congratulations!

I remember the moments that I found out that I was pregnant for the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th baby and although I was, to be quite honest, just a little bit shocked with the 5th I was also very excited to look forward to feeling the flutters of life within my womb again.

For many of you this event has been planned for a long time and for others this may be a BIG surprise. Either way, preparing for a new life is an incredible and exciting journey on which you are about to embark.

Preparing for our baby’s arrival should be just like planning for any other major event you have in your life yet so many couples get side tracked and put off exploring one of the most important items they need. This is an item that will help them understand, navigate and prepare both physically and emotionally for the most empowering and positive arrival into parenthood – childbirth educational classes.

What I learned as a mother, as a doula and as a childbirth educator is that the most important outcome for us as mothers is that we have positive, empowering birth experiences. It is not all about having a natural birth, it is about understanding all of our options and feeling empowered so we can be active participants in making informed decisions - that is how each woman has their best birth.

Our Labour Comfort Workshop provides a dynamic learning experience in an intimate and safe environment. It is a place where families can share their concerns and questions and find answers. Our classes are very much about reflection, sharing life experiences and building lasting relationships.

Many of you may have heard about the Lamaze Classes of the 60’s where there was a lot of “ HEE ,HEE, WHO “ breathing happening – those days are long gone. The Lamaze philosophy of today helps women to gain confidence in their bodies, to trust their innate ability to give birth and to make informed decisions about pregnancy, birth, breastfeeding and parenting. It is considered the GOLD Standard for Childbirth Educators around the world...

Our class includes all of the Six Care Practices that promote safe, healthy birth options:

- Let labour begin on its own

- Walk, move and change positions

- Bring a loved one, friend or doula for continuous support

- Avoid interventions that are not medically necessary

- Avoid giving birth on your back and follow your body’s urges

- Keep mother and baby together – it is best for mom, baby and breastfeeding

Becoming a Certified Lamaze Childbirth Educator was one of the best decisions I ever made – I love educating and empowering families to explore all of their options for a safe, healthy and positive birth experience. After seven years of educating and empowering hundreds of families I am still excited for every class. I continue to learn and to be inspired by every family that enters our Babeeze’s loft.

Over the years I have gathered hundreds of testimonies but I think that this recent quote from a new dad to his fellow class participants eloquently expresses why childbirth classes do matter:

“The biggest thing that we need to convey to all of you is that even though we had a plan, sometimes our babies will turn that plan upside down and throw it out the window. Jill prepared us very well.”

“Relax, stay calm and take it one step at a time”.

Don’t be left wondering why no one told you. Don’t put off to tomorrow what you can do today. Register for a spot in our Labour Comfort Workshop.
